Joseph Campbell set out to analyze universal patterns across the myths of different cultures and bad writers decided it was rigid format they are compelled to follow, a format they must edit their story around because George Lucas did it
Please fund my Kickstarter to find every writer in the world who is structuring their story around Joseph Campbell’s Heroes’ Journey and make them stop

DS9 > TOS > TNG > Voyager > Enterprise
Star Trek isn’t a great or even good film franchise but if I had to rank them
First Contact > Wrath of Khan > Voyage Home > The Motion Picture > Undiscovered Country > Search for Spock > Insurrection > Star Trek XI > Generations > Final Frontier > Nemesis
…with only the first four being worth watching,...

I can’t believe I passed this semester? With a 2.7 GPA? Which isn’t that great considering my first semester was a 3.5 & I’m still short of credits necessary to graduate but hey I didn’t fail for a second semester in a row and get expelled so that’s something
Of course when it first aired I didn’t watch Arrested Development
I did watch the premiere of Firefly when it first aired though and turned it off halfway through & never watched it again but we were NOT a Nielsen family so I have absolutely no responsibility for the low ratings leading to its cancellation ok
Mitchell Hurwitz has said people shouldn’t watch all of Arrested Development all in one go & that’s all the justification I need to be needlessly contrary and watch the new season one episode at a time & impose spoilers on myself as I know everyone else will marathon
Really, after all this time only having new Arrested Development for seven hours before I’m done and go...

“Ah, yes, my psychiatrist, Hax Murderer. He has been helping me profile this ax murderer.”
Can anyone explain why the general assumption is that someone who says they’re praying for victims of some tragedy can’t POSSIBLY also give their money or time to help?
I know, I know. It lets New Atheists be smug & self-superior, but there is absolutely no logical reason to assume that people who say they’re praying for someone aren’t also helping them in material...

In all seriousness if Yahoo’s acquisition of Tumblr actually brings in a huge of flood of new users what will actually happen is that the ratio of people who wordlessly reblog cool photos to people who slap stupid gifs of Jared Padalecki being a bad actor on every single damn thing will tip back in a favourable direction and that’s why I’m welcoming Yahoo’s acquisition of Tumblr...

an there was someone I followed who didn’t get people worried about their fates

Remember when NBC picked up two shows about the behind-the-scenes antics of a sketch comedy show and one was a comedy from Tina Fey and the other was a drama series by Aaron Sorkin
and both shows began airing at around the same time and everyone expected that a show from Aaron Sorkin couldn’t possibly fail, and the quirky sitcom would be quickly cancelled
And then 30 Rock ran for seven...
So should we be anticipating the cancellation of Hannibal because NBC picked up a show with a similar “criminal helps cop catch criminals” theme only now the criminal is played by James Spader & the show is a bland crime procedural (The Blacklist)
or are we going to have a substantially bloodier take on the Studio 60/30 Rock feud of ‘06

And also Game of Thrones is not a nerdy obsession either. It’s a crossover hit! It’s not just for fantasy enthusiasts. They’re telling human stories in a fantasy world. Mainstream!
Note to people claiming New Doctor Who or Abrams Trek dragged their franchises into the mainstream for the first time:
Classic Who was mainstream. The Hartnell years saw Dalekmania, where Daleks were slapped on everything from novelty Christmas songs to their own failed TV show. Tom Baker story The Ark in Space was the most watched Doctor Who episode (in terms of rank) until Voyage of the...

Here astronomer Phil Plait runs into a conspiracy theorist who applies horrible photoshop filters to photographs in the hopes of the discerning if they are human, space lizards or robots. IDK how casting Bagels Cucumbers as Khan isn’t disrespectful to Gene Roddenberry tbh.
That man fought networks tooth and nail to have people of different races on his show. He fought long and hard to have an interracial kiss on TV.

Last year there was a show called “Ghost Mine” and it is just what it sounds like. A team of ghost hunters descend into a haunted mine.
The first sign this was going to be amazing: we also get to meet the miners, who are bearded, old-timey types with the kind of weird superstitions one would find among 19th century sailors. A woman in a mine is bad luck. So are gingers.
Secondly the...
